BEN MOON – RUGBY PLAYER, DESTRUCTIVE SCRUMMAGER TO COUNTRY GENT!

How do you make a 17 stone plus English prop look sharp in a well fitted tweed jacket and bespoke jeans?

Ben Moon is more accustomed to getting down and dirty for the Exeter Chiefs than looking sartorially elegant. But we were not only very pleased with what we made Ben, we think he scrubs up rather well when suited and booted!

Ben Moon – Devon player born and bred

The 32-year-old academy graduate has scored 11 tries in 259 appearances for the Exeter Chiefs since making his first-team debut in October 2008. Ben has made eight international appearances since making his Test debut against South Africa in November 2018.

”To be at one club your whole career is pretty rare these days. The fact it’s my hometown club as well, it’s brilliant, and I feel very privileged to be part of the Chiefs.” says Ben

Sartorial Elegance

Roomten combination of tailored denim jeans and tweed jacket is a distinguished new breed of casual wear which marries one of the most iconic items of clothing, the denim jean, with the sartorial elegance of a bespoke jacket. The result is a cleaner, sharper approach to denim, with all the eccentricity of traditional British bespoke.

Ben’s Jacket – Fabric – moorland tweed, 430 gm. Style – 2 button jacket, twin rear vents and notch lapel

Hunble Beginings – Cullumpton Rugby Club

We decided along with Ben to use Cullumpton Rugby Club for our photo shoot. This is where it all began for Ben, he started playing for Cullompton once he’d left school.

“My uncle used to play for Cullompton for the men’s team, so I joined with my best mate whose dad used to coach us,” Ben said.

“A lot of my mates from school then joined Cullompton Rugby Club and used to go out and get hammered every weekend – as in beaten, not drinking heavily. We used to get beaten most weekends, but that helped me with my own game, playing defensively.

Ben made his debut for the Chiefs in 2008 and was reunited with his former coach Ed Lewsey.

“It was pretty odd having a former coach as your teammate. You only ever see teachers and coaches at school, and whenever you see them outside of that environment, it’s always a bit weird, especially not having to refer to him as Mr Lewsey.”

Ben Moon’s Testimonial Year 2020/21

Ben says “When Chairman Tony Rowe said that Exeter Chiefs would like to grant me a testimonial, I was delighted, excited and a little overwhelmed. Then the nerves started – I have never had to do anything like this before. Walking out at Twickenham is less daunting – at least I know what I’m doing on the rugby field. Thank you to everyone on the #backingben team for your amazing work in putting together some amazing and varied events. The nerves are settling – well almost… did someone say speeches?!
