Dinner suits

In short

A Roomten dinner suit is a made-to-measure or bespoke black-tie suit in black or midnight blue, with silk-faced lapels, a covered waistband or waistcoat, and no belt loops — cut to your own measurements.

Black tie is the one dress code with rules, and the rules are what make it work. A dinner suit that fits, in the right cloth with the right facings, looks considerably better than a hired one — and it is yours for every event afterwards.

What we make

Options and variations.

  • Midnight blue or black

Midnight blue reads darker than black under artificial light.

  • Peak lapel or shawl collar

Both are correct; the shawl is softer, the peak more formal.

  • Grosgrain or satin facings

Silk facings on the lapel, buttons and trouser braid.

  • Waist covering

    A low-cut waistcoat or a cummerbund, never a belt.

  • Dress shirts

Made-to-measure shirts with the appropriate collar and front.

Detail

How it is made for you.

Lead time — Approximately 6–8 weeks

Cloth

Fine barathea and mohair blends are the traditional choices. Mohair adds a subtle sheen and holds a crisp line through a long evening; barathea is the quieter, more classical option.

Trousers

Dinner-suit trousers are made without belt loops, with side adjusters or braces buttons and a single silk braid down the outside seam. Hems are plain, never turned up.

Made-to-measure or bespoke

Both routes are available. Made-to-measure suits most commissions; bespoke adds a handmade floating canvas and further fitting stages for the most individual result.
