Made-to-measure shirts are worth it if off-the-peg shirts fit your neck but not your body, or your body but not your neck. Roomten men's shirts start from £185 and women's from £145, with collar, cuff, fit and cloth chosen individually.
A shirt is the garment you wear closest to the skin for the longest hours, and it is the one most people compromise on. Off the peg you buy a collar size and accept whatever body shape comes with it.
What changes when it is made for you
- Collar height and shape chosen for your neck and for the lapels you wear.
- Sleeve length set individually — so a half-inch of cuff shows below the jacket.
- Body cut to your chest, waist and shoulder slope, without darts pulling in the wrong place.
- Cuff style, placket, pocket and monogram decided rather than inherited.
Cloth for shirts you wear every week
For work, two-fold poplins and twills wear best and press cleanly. Oxfords and brushed cotton suit a more relaxed office or a jacket without a tie. If shirts are worn daily, order several at once so the fit is proved on the first and repeated across the rest.
