Choose cloth for a made-to-measure suit by starting with when you will wear it, then picking a weight for the season, a colour for the occasion and a weave for the look. Handle the cloth in person, drape it against your shoulder, and ask how it will crease, wear and clean.
Cloth choice is the most important decision in a made-to-measure commission. Cut can be adjusted; cloth cannot be changed once the garment is made. We guide customers through this in every appointment, but it helps to arrive with a clear sense of purpose.
Start with the occasion
- Business — plain navy or charcoal worsted, 280–340g.
- Wedding — navy, mid grey or a subtle check depending on formality.
- Evening — darker navy or black, finer cloth, sharper finish.
- Casual — softer cloth, lighter weight, patterns and textures welcome.
Feel the cloth
A photograph cannot tell you how cloth behaves. We drape bunches across your shoulder so you can see colour against your skin, feel the weight and watch how the cloth moves. This is the part of the appointment where most customers make their final decision.
