27 Oct Velvet – The Ultimate Party Fabric.
With the festive season right around the corner the velvet jacket really comes into its own. It can be worn with a T-shirt and jeans for a more casual evening out look or can be worn as part of a dinner suit with black trousers and a white shirt for events and weddings.
FABRIC
The luxurious softness of velvet makes it the perfect choice for any formal event that requires a degree of elegance and sophistication. Velvet, through long association luxurious sporting smoking jackets – has acquired a certain aristocratic and decadent quality, giving the modern wearer a touch of elegance that few other fabrics can offer.
Roomten offers a range of sumptuous colours including opulent purples, reds and blues alongside the more muted maroon, mauve and Persian blue. The wide choice of colours ensures you will find just the right colour for you.
STYLE
If you are using Velvet as part of a dinner suit you can opt for silk lapel, jetting’s and buttons which tie it together perfectly with a heavy black barathea dinner suit trousers. Alternatively, you can also not have the silks which make it much easier to dress down the jacket for less formal occasions, but it will still took great as part of a dinner suit. We suggest if you are going to go for a velvet lapel that you also go for covered buttons as this makes them blend in, keeping the jacket sharp and elegant.
Velvet jackets looks great in both single and double breasted forms, and traditionally comes with a peaked lapel.
FIT
With roomten bespoke the fit it’s determined by you. Velvet is quite a stiff fabric and can take a while to mould to the body so it is always better to have a little bit more room than less room.
It is also important to think how you are going to wear it. If you are only going to wear it as a dinner jacket with a shirt underneath then you can go more fitting, however if you want to wear it for slightly more causal occasions I would allow a little bit more room as this means you will be able to put something slightly thicker like a roll neck underneath.
