29 Jan Cheltenham – What To Wear.
Unlike Ascot, there is no strict dress code for Cheltenham, you must not wear jeans and you should wear smart attire if you are inside the enclosures. This opens up a world of possibilities and can create the perfect space to be more experimental. Cheltenham takes place between 15th-18th of March, at this time of year the weather can be unpredictable you may want to have a few options for the day incase of any last minute weather changes.
Tweed
Over the years we have seen men trade in their more traditional suits for tweed. You can play it slight safer with a plain tweed or opt for something with a bold check, either will push you into a more country inspired look. Pair your tweed suit with a white or pastel cotton shirt and bold tie a pocket square to really complete the country gentleman attire. It is best to go for a 3 piece as this will allow you to take the jacket off if the weather is warm and still have a complete look.
With roomten you can choose which tweed will work best for you. We source our tweeds from some of our favourite mills such as Lovat Mill, Harrison’s, Porter & Harding, and Holland and Sherry. You should consider what weight tweed would work best for you, the heavier the tweed the more robust it will be.
You will design your suit and have it fit exactly how you would like. Our team will always be here to guide you if you need it.
More on Harris tweed:
Suits.
If tweed isn’t your preferred choice you also have the option of wearing a formal suit. Try and choose something a little out of the ordinary, either with a check in the fabric or choose a bolder design such as a double breasted waistcoat, this will make a statement without being overpowering. At roomten we have over 6000 British and Italian fabrics to choose from so you can be sure that you will find the perfect choice.
Sports Jackets and Trousers.
We understand that the full tweed suit may not be everyones cup of tea and a formal suit can feel like a work uniform, therefore separates are a great option and will be versatile for future occasions. Having your garments Made-to-Measure or bespoke means that everything will fit you beautifully, which will leave you feeling head and shoulders above the rest.
Choose a good weight tweed or wool for your sports jacket. If you want it to be slightly more subtle and fly under the radar choose a herringbone or a donegal tweed, a fresco wool can create an ideal summer jacket. A fabric that has a nice depth of texture and will be easily transferable from cheltenham to future events and weekends.
For your trousers use heavier twills, cottons or moleskins. Choose colours that create a contrast, if you go for a navy jacket go for a brown, tan or beige trousers. If you decide on a brown jacket go for a navy, beige or cream trouser.
Overcoats
The weather can be unpredictable at the best of times but especially by the time Cheltenham comes around. It would be wise to prepare for all weathers and at roomten we have hundreds of fabrics and designs that range from raincoat to Chesterfield. We can create your perfect racing look.
